Betty and Alex had a deck. And one that wasn’t in very good shape. What they really wanted was a screened porch so they could enjoy the birds and breezes without the bugs.

So, we tore down the deck, made some minor repairs that turned up, and built them a screened porch. With the temperate climate here in the piedmont of North Carolina, they’ll be able to enjoy it nearly year round.

Allen loves his model trains. And he decided they needed a better home than on top of plastic bins and makeshift tables. He told me what he needed and now has a enough room for the tracks, buildings, tiny little people and even a river.

(You can see where he asked for a cutout in the cabinet for the river. But there must have been a bad storm because it looks like the trestle bridge was washed out. Hope no one was hurt!)

This Starmount home had a sunroom but it very much needed updating. We gutted it and replaced virtually everything: windows, doors, tile floor, heating system.

Pete & Kathy wanted a new bathroom for the home they just bought. And they needed one! Not only were the gray and maroon tiles painful to look at, the floor under the existing shower was rotted, down to the joists.

They wanted the bathroom cabinetry to feel like furniture. Heavy furniture. So, Kathy gave me a page torn out of a magazine that kind of represented the style they wanted and out came the old bathroom – joists,sub-floor, cabinets, tiles, toilet. Everything but the kitchen sink (which, of course, is still in the kitchen!)

They chose a different kind of counter top than the more common tile, granite or marble. Kathy wanted wood. So, I built a counter top of thick (1.5 inches) solid oak. Not veneer. Not ply. And it’s about 9′ long. It’s a substantial. And is a real piece of furniture, just like they wanted.

The old, maroon bathtub and small, dark shower stall has been replaced with a large shower with multiple shower heads and frameless glass.

Suzanne had a 1980′s bathroom and wanted to have one of this century. Out came the existing surfaces and fixtures, including the jetted tub. in when custom cabinets, frameless glass doors around the totally tiled shower with (river stone on the floor) and a granite countertop on the large vanity.

Suzanne employed a decorator to design the bathroom and I was happy to work with them.

Everything was ripped out, walls were moved, the shower is now enclosed by floor to ceiling frameless glass and light pours in from the large window.
